Contains corporate records of numerous predecessor and subsidiary railroads leased or operated by the corporations that ultimately became part of the Penn Central Transportation Company. These records include stockholders' and directors' meeting minutes, account books and other financial records, stock records, correspondence, and Interstate Commerce Commission reports, dating from the 1830s to the 1970s. The bulk of the materials concern rail lines operated by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, including the Norwich & Worcester Railroad and the New England Transportation Co. Also included is an extensive body of records created by the Boston & Albany Railroad (leased to the New York Central) and several of the lines it operated, such as the Chester and Becket, Pittsfield and North Adams, and Ware River railroad companies.
